May seem like a stupid question, but I had always assumed that if someone was banned with Echelon, they would be banned from the game which seems logical to me.  From what I can see in the game logs, this doesnt appear to be happening.  Have I misunderstood?

Part of the reason for me asking is that I can see a ban by Echelon in my bf3 banlist.txt file :-

And I can see b3 auto-banning people for a period of time when they break the rules, but I can't see any of the other people who I have perm banned via Echelon in the last couple of weeks.  Have I broken something?

What version of echelon do you use?
In my own experience, I´ve had success banning people from echelon, but not deactivating bans, which I had to do it manually from the database. What about echelon´s privileges over the DB?

v1 as I was told v2 was pretty buggy.  I'm pretty confused right now because I can see a ban in my bf3 banlist.txt which has to have been done by echelon, and I can see b3 updating the banlist.txt with temp bans, but I don't understand why all my other permbans aren't in there.

I never had a problem banning via echelon V2. Only unbanning made a second action necessary.
After removing the ban via echelon, i had to remove it from the servers ban file manually. Atleast for CoD:BO.

Can't remember how it worked with V1, it's been a while since i last used it.

What you say is exact for mw2 (alteriwnet) too.
Regarding to echelon 2, it is not buggy anymore ( perhaps some minor details are still missing, but indeed a terrific work was done), it is highly advisable using it. The more people that uses it, the more it could be worked on to fix some details that are still left.

I'm very happy to give it a try.  I've installed it and set it up for our BO servers.  Is there any information on setting it up with Red Orchestra 2 and Battlefield 3 ??

Echelon doesn't know how to PB ban them unless it has been told how to, which it hasn't yet for BF3, so it can only do a B3 ban. When they next try to connect to the server B3 will see the B3 ban and do a PB ban, because it does know how to do it.

Same reason why Echelon can't do a PB unban, you need to do it in game since PB won't let the player connect in order for B3 to see that they have been unbanned and do the unban automatically.

Echelon v1 isn't doing a b3 ban at all.  According to ban.php, its only able to ban via pb.  I guess it shouldn't be hard to write some code to ban via the games banlist as well.  I'm a total novice but will take a look

Echelon can't do a PB UNBAN, it can do a B3 UNBAN because that occurs only in the B3 database, as you say. But when B3 next sees a banned player it does a PB BAN, which Echelon can't undo for BF3 (for Q3 based games for example, it can do a PB unban, but it needs to know how to do it via rcon to do so).

So in BF3 Echelon can ban and unban a player successfully all day long as long as they don't connect to the server and cause B3 to initiate a PB Ban. Once the PB Ban is in place Echelon cannot (currently) do anything about it, as it hasn't been told how to do a PB ban or PB unban.

Echelon v1 does do a B3 ban, click on the permban button and the ban will appear in the players record immediately, what it can't do, as you say, is ban via the games banlist. But B3 will ban the player in the games banlist next time it sees them.

ahh ok then.  I think thats answered my question and why I was getting confused.  I thought it would write it immediately to the ban list when you pressed the perm ban button in echelon.  I didnt realise the banned person would need to try to connect again in order for b3 to add them.  Out of curiosity, why does it work this way?  I'm assuming there are functions that echelon can call to ask b3 to perm ban a player, and echelon keeps all the relevant guid/ea_guid data, so could echelon be told how to ban someone immediately?

Bravo, this doesn't appear to be working as you have put above.  I perm-banned someone from our server last night at 20:37 and they were then seen on our server later that night at 23:04 and they weren't kicked or added to the banlist

When I tempban or permban someone from Echelon (v. 2), it is done, but if I try to unban him from Echelon, I don´t get him unbanned until I go to the DB and delete the penalty row myself. This has happened to me always, and I never could get a fair explanation. Perhaps this is the chance.
