Okay I have this one database that is connected to three of my CoD4 servers all running B3 happily. The three servers run on the same server box so I hooked them all up to the same pbbans.dat file (punkbuster ban file). So they all share the same bans and the same admins. It all works nicely.

Now we have decided to get another server box for another two CoD4 servers. But we want them to share the same bans and admins. So were going to hook up the two server boxes to use the same database. Thus they all share the same admins and records.

But I'm under the assumption that the bans that B3 create such as auto bans and perma bans and all that are recorded in the database but the actual ban is kept in the pbbans.dat file (punkbuster ban file).

So after all of that my question is does B3 enforce the bans or does punkbuster's ban file enforce the bans and just B3 knows about them?

Cheers in advance!

B3 will enforce the bans that are in the database, PB will enforce the bans that are in the pbbans.dat file.

When a B3 ban is set, it is also added to the pbbans.dat file if punkbuster is enabled in the config (because the pb_sv_ban command will also be issued). So if the bot would crash, there's always the pbbans.dat file.

But be very careful with the rebuild bans command in the punkbuster plugin, for it will rebuild the pbbans.dat file based on the database content of that particular server! You will lose the bans added by the other servers!

Also if you use punksbusted or a similar streaming service, be careful not to lose the bans that are streamed in the pbbans.dat file in that case.

I know there are some techniques to circumvent or import bans to protect the streamed bans, I know there is a topic somewhere here that holds the answer to that riddle.
