It should wok. I don't see why it won't. Did you test it and have it not work? Can you post a log if so?

do I have my syntax right? will that cover words like:
noob
NOOB
NOOOB
nooob
noooob
NOOOOB
n00b
n000b
N00B
N000B

and if I add a u in there [nN][Oo0][uU][bB]

it should cover nub
NUB
nuub
NUUB
nuuub
NUUUB

etc. right?

have you checked, that you really have to take care about capital letters?

I'd just use n(0+|o+)b
