You can try putting

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="latin-1"?>

at the top of the xml and see if that works. You will also have to check if the accented characters actually show in the console, since each game behaves differently.

If that doesn't work then you will have to replace all the accented characters with their non-accented versions.
