Additions to Echelon
« on: October 17, 2011, 07:08:24 PM »
I propose the following additions to Echelon:

1) When in a client, you can see his latest chat. Make it possible to chick on the chat ID and jump to the chatlog showing this. This way youcan read the whole convo for reference.

2) When searching a for a client, you cannot search by @id. Enable searching by @id would help.

Just my thoughts, otherwise Echelon2 is my main echelon now...

Don't take it the wrong way, just seems like it would be better to create your own thread since it is a different issue. Sorry if I came off as too harsh.

I love the first proposition! Echelon v1 so much lacks of this functionality...:(

1) Love that.

2) I thought that this was already in there? If I search all with an @ID it'll come up with someone's name and the same for when I search Player ID.

This is what I get.

1) Excellent idea, I had been thinking there needed to be a context to those things, but your right, simply throwing back to the chat logger page would give a thorough and easy representation.

2) It's in there, but as you pointed out it doesn't always work. Within echelon2 to search by id you don't need the @ symbol, just search the ID straight. But since you brought that up just now, it might make a lot of sense to allow searching with @, and use the @key for the all search since people making the Echelon 1 transition are used to that. Then when you search at the moment the query is set up to be LIKE rather then equal to the id. I'm not sure why it was put that way, and unless told otherwise, I intend to change that to be an equals (searching an id of 2 with the LIKE keyword produces an excessive number of results, as well as being slow)

Next push (hopefully very very soon) will probably be fixing number 2, and restoring some code that had been reverted out because it was poorly tested, and I couldn't solve the issue. But it should bring back proper GUID checks for BFBC2, MOH, and altitude. And I'll try and get the games that have been added since I last went though in there as well (RO2, BF3).

On the chatlogger, when you click it would we want that line to be the first thing in the chatlog page, in the middle or what? Because in terms of getting context I'm thinking it might be awkward for the line to be the first thing shown as it hides what responses were, but in the middle of the page it will be hard to find it... Maybe I'll just stick it in the middle and highlight it? Any thoughts?

Middle+highlight would be very fine:) We could see both consecutive and previous statements, without the need of changing the page.

+1. This would be the best way. If you can't highlight it, then top of page.
