Echelon 2 Beta Testing
« on: March 29, 2011, 02:34:48 AM »
So xlr8or was kind enough to set-up a beta sub section for echelon 2 (Thanks). If you would like access to it, just drop a line here, and I'll try and get someone to add you to the sub section.

The primary purpose is for testing across multiple gametypes and host platforms, and move some of the ongoing bug triage for the bleeding edge to there for now, as well as get opnions on some changes made.

Please be patient on getting access, it requires that someone with higher permissions then me add you, and I can't send PM's to them to ask, so it will be upon their convenience. And we do appreciate it  ;) )

My organization runs B3 on COD4, COD5, COD7, and hopefully Homefront when available. We prefer IIS webserver, but I think I have apache on one of the machines.

Oh, and to wicked/xlr...
Not sure if this is a SMF 2.x only feature, but XLR should be able to set you as a moderator of the group and you would have the ability to add/remove people only to that group (note, it would be as a secondary group, group mods cannot set primary groups).

Hm... I have moderator for the version 2 beta, I don't see a way to add people, but this may be me not understanding SMF

Are you a forum moderator or a group moderator?

Do you see a moderate tab in the navbar?

If you do, go there, do you see a membersgroup tab? In there, view membergroups, then if you are a mod on the group, then at the bottom you can add people to it..

Not sure. :P The forum thing says moderator for the sub board is me, but I think it only applies there. But I see no moderator tab.  :P

Then it is just a forum moderator,not a group mod. XLR will be able to tell if SMF 1 has this function.

      Alright, xlr8or set it up so I can add people a couple of days ago, so I finally sat down, and went throgh and gave you all access to view the sub board. There's not much there yet.

      In terms of things new in echelon 2, echelon 2;
      • logs all succesful echelon admin actions (ie changing a users level, banning, etc)
      • stores more things into the database
      • has a rough framework that's being worked on, to support plugins (echelon side plugins, not bot side, allthough they can tie in together (ie xlrstats or chatlogger)
      • has a new look and feel with more javascript in front of it (I can't decide if I like it or not)
      • in theory allows you to block IP's and disable IE from being able to use it. (I haven't tested this at all)
      • in theory supports doing all actions through a secure session. (Again haven't tested this yet)
      • allows you to edit a ban directly, (changing duration, as well as just deactivating it)
      • has some additional filter pages are set up that allow you to view inactive admins on you're servers, people who regularly visit the servers (this does not include people with clan tags on this one), and the start of some clan tag filtering

      On the otherhand there is a list of known bugs;
      • chatlogger plugin needs to be reworked to support multiple databases properly, until I solve this problem (READ: implement the solution I came up with) the chatlogger plugin is unsupported
      • games (b3 database connections) can not be deleted from echelon2, an active/inactive flag will be appearing soon to solve this
      • theres a variety of useability bugs that pop up, that are mostly what I have been squashing thus far, but there's always more
      • currently IIS is known to have problems with loginng in

      Both the above lists are off the top of my head, so there's sure to be some things I've missed.

      FrikFry has been pointing out a number of assumptions that have been made as it seems all the active devs thus far have been coming from the UrT side of things, and thus MW members get some bogus messages about invalid GUID's casue they aren't 32 characters long. So comments about why does it do this is very helpful as well.
