So echelon2 as some have noticed will pop up an informative little message box if the GUID is not 32 character's long, and will link it to http://www.punksbusted.com/cgi-bin/membership/guidcheck.cgi?guid= with the guid filled in, which is a great little off site check. It has however risen to my attention that the 32 character length is a requirement for Q3 based things, and that for the newer CoD games it generates the wrong results.

What are the appropriate GUID lengths/qualifications (IE Q3 based must be 32 characters long, and hexadecimal) either the answer is fine or links to where I can find out.

The games I'm assuming work off of the Q3 style; Q3, OA, UrT, SMG, ET. All the others are unknown to me at this juncture.

I'm also willing to accept suggestions for other sites to link to do the GUID check off of (Be it for Q3 style or the other ones). As I'd believe it if punksbusted doesn't cover all the games, or have a large enough list in some games.

As i already mentioned, pbbans. However, we do run into the no check page issue. I owuld recommend getting in touch with pipsi def and ask him if they could make a page.

Explain many admins will use it for cheat detection.

As for GUID, I know cod7 can use as little as 5.

Here are the ones I know for sure
  • BFBC2 and MOH : 32 hexadecimal digit long guid prefixed with 'EA_' which makes a 35 char long guid
  • iourt41 : 32 hexadecimal digit long guid (using capital letters) anything else is suspicius (and you'll find some). A same player on two servers would have two guid : one per server.
  • smg* : 32 hexadecimal digit long
  • wop* : 32 hexadecimal digit long
  • altitude : guid is called vapor_id and is a 32 hexadecimal digit long number formated as xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx which make is a 36 chars long string
  • et* : 
  • oa081 (openarena): 32 hexadecimal digit long

for cod* I'm not comfortable enough to tell how it works. From the parser code I can see that each one of them has a property called _guidLength which are :
  • cod: 6
  • cod2: 6
  • cod4: 32
  • cod5: 9
  • cod6: 16
  • cod7: 5

On the cod games are they again hexadecimal digit's, and is there a maximum length?

With regards to all the other 32 hex digit GUID's I only have urt checking case at the moment, or is the case relevant for all of them?

I put in a request with PBBans (forums as I got no repsonse on they're IRC) to see if theres anyway I can get the ability to link Echelon directly to their search results page (or even their search page with all the fields minus captcha filled in). I not willing to write out a cURL program designed to work around their captcha's as that's questionable, and rude.

Did you have a different person I should contact directly?

DOH! THey have XML feeds if people are infact banned. Such an easy way to look stuff up, and so much data em, what game, alias, reason, server, server ip, ban link, appeal status. You can see my question/the response here; http://www.pbbans.com/forums/echelon2-b3-and-pbbans-t142696.html

This will be worked in shortly for all aplicable games as that's wonderful in my opnion. Is there a reason to keep punks busted instead of this (or as side by side options?)

Any objections to useing pbbans/making it an option? From what I can see it looks well put together and powerful...

Keep them both. Option in echelon which to use primary, but a link to search at the other one.
PsB and PBBans don't play well together (PsB won't share with PBBans - only site that won't) so you can find stuff on one that isn't on another.

EDIT: I see maydax was a big help... he normally is.
