B3 update not starting help needed
« on: January 10, 2015, 08:33:23 PM »
Hi, so a member in my clan decided to update b3 ( I got/had b3 dev version " b3-1.10.0dev.daily268-20141220 " ) So he updated with cmd !update . First I lost access to b3 with putty, went to filezilla and put permissions back put then I got " -bash: /home/bigbrotherbot/scripts/b3.sh: /bin/bash^M: bad interpreter: No such file or directory "  I put b3.shell script I had on desktop back and I got access and everything. but then the B3 would crash when trying to start it. If anyone of you know why its crashing it'd be great if you know how to fix if its in b3.shell script or anything else. B3 log --> http://pastebin.com/nWD97BAW

There don't seem to be any errors in the log.

I spoke with him privately. The problem is that they are using a "custom" B3 configuration. B3 is being run by root user and somehow the automatic update procedure failed. I'll add some more processing to the updater plugin in order to provide a backup copy whenever the update fails.
Once again, remove all the B3 files except for configuration files and extplugins and install the latest daily build. It runs smoothly on my servers and should do on your.

Okay so, I tried start it manually and I get this error " http://pastebin.com/WZYseuAJ " Anyone know why this is happening? I deleted all b3 files except the extplugins and other plugins I had. Then I installed newest version of dev b3 manually ( moving them to the folder myself )

because the command you used to start B3 is not correct: use this one instead:

Code: [Select]
python b3_run.py -c /home/bigbrotherbot/b3/conf/b3_sr8.xml

And once again, try not to use root to run B3. You should create another system user (b3) which would have to own the whole B3 directory. Then you should create another user to run your game servers and give permissions to B3 to read the log files produced by such game servers.

Ok I got it all good now kind of, I got a user named urt which is owner of the urt servers now. And a user named b3 which is owner of the, So I can do b3 status now so it's supposed to work I thought.. I tried to use " b3 start sr8 " ( name b3_sr8.xml ) So when I tried to start I got this message - [email protected]:~$ b3 start sr8
/home/bigbrotherbot/scripts/b3.sh: line 243: : No such file or directory
. Now why Would I get that message? I checked whats at line 243 and it's here. http://pastebin.com/VbADTE54 The line 243 is echo "${!}" > "${PID_FILE}" . If you may know the problem i'd be happy if you could help me.

Looks like your b3 xml is messed up

Code: [Select]
ConfigFileNotValid: 'not well-formed (invalid token): line 55, column 8'
