Map Rating Plugin
« on: March 26, 2013, 11:58:40 PM »
Hey everyone! I have created quite a few plugins for B3, but all of them have been tailored to my own servers and unsuitable for distribution. The B3 community has done a lot for me, so I'm very excited to finally have written a plugin that I can share with you all.

Introducing the Map Rating Plugin

Purpose:
Its hard to tell which maps players like and hate, so I created a plugin to find out just that. With MapRate, players can vote whether they like or dislike the current map. This data is stored, so administrators can then use this information to create mapcycles with maps they know their community enjoys.

Commands:
!like
- Like the current map

!dislike
- Dislike the current map

!maprating (!mrate)
- Check how many likes/dislikes the current (or specified) map has

!topliked (!tl)
- Display the most liked maps

!topdisliked (!td)
- Display the most disliked maps

Notes:
  • Players can only vote on the current map
  • Players cannot vote twice or change their vote.
  • The plugin automagically creates the proper MySQL tables for you. If you encounter any issues, you can manually create the tables using the included map_tables.sql file.
  • The plugin includes a nice webfront to review map popularity (now with map thumbnails!)
  • It is recommended to place a message in your advertisement cycle to inform players on how to vote.
  • In the readme, I state that this plugin is for B3 version 1.8.0 or higher. This is because I have only tested it on this version of B3. It is entirely possible that it could work on older versions, so don't hesitate to give it a try. If you have issues using it with an older version of B3, post in this topic, and I will do my best to change the plugin to better support backwards compatibility.
  • This plugin has only ever been tested on Urban Terror 4.1, though I don't see why it wouldn't work on other Quake 3 based games such as CoD. Again, please feel free to try it out in other games and report back here with your findings.
  • The automatic table generation has only been tested on a MySQL database, so it may or may not work with a SQLite database.
  • The webfront is currently only compatible with MySQL databases (not SQLite).

Changelog:
  • v1.0.0 - 3/26/2013 - Initial release
  • v1.1.0 - 4/15/2013 - Added optional map thumbnails to web front (no plugin changes)

Planned Features:
  • Full SQLite support.
  • Fully customizable command responses.
  • Cleaner webfront setup
  • Improved popularity algorithm
  • Multiple server support

Special Thanks:
  • To Courgette for helping learn python over the past few years. It has meant a lot to me.
  • To xlr8or for creating wonderful plugins to learn from.

Download it here.

If you have any questions, issues, or suggestions, feel free to post here.

Thanks and enjoy!
Leito

Sorry for the double post. I updated the download to include a nice webfront to display the map popularity data complete with like bars and sortable tables.

Hi Leito,

for the Web-Interface... Some people are so bad with the Mapnames, images of the Maps would be a good option.

That's a great idea! I wrote it in today, and I'll release an update this weekend.

When you mouse over the map name, the map thumbnail appears.

Sorry for the delay GeneralFailure! I had finished the code, but never got around to uploading the files. I've updated the plugin to v1.1.0. The update includes the new map thumbnail feature in the webfront. There are no changes in the actual B3 plugin however, so there's no need to update that. In the index.php, simply set your "game code" and then the map images will appear when you mouse over the map name. To update, I would just replace your entire MapRate webfront folder with the new one and re-enter your DB info.

Note: The map images are supported by pretty much all of the games that B3 supports.

Enjoy!

Glad you enjoy the plugin. I don't have a swap roles plugin that I know of. Also, I'm not entirely sure what functionality you're looking for. Let me know and I'll see if I can help.

On a MapRate related note, I've been quite busy lately, so I haven't been able to push out the updates I've been working on. However, once I finish them up, I think you all will really like them.

Expect:
  • a facelift for the web interface
  • an update notifier for both the plugin and the webfront
  • a new popularity algorithm that more accurately ranks maps
  • fully customized command responses
  • easier webfront setup

Thanks,
Leito

Excellent plugin!

I am trialling this on one of my servers and is looking good so far.

One massive problem for me is that there is no multi-server support in either the front end or the plugin. If it could be added in that would be amazing.. if not I will have to setup a 'portal' page with individual mapstat pages for each server.. which isn't hard but is messy.

Thanks!

Duc.

Thanks for the feedback Duc! Multi-server support is at the top of my to-do list for the plugin. I'm finishing up a couple work projects this week, so I'll be releasing the features I detailed in my previous post this weekend. Then, I'll begin work on the multi-server functionality. I'll shoot for a release of that sometime next week.

Cheers,
Leito
